The point of security lighting is that nobody wants to be seen. A well lit driveway, side gate and back door removes the cover, and it does it every night whether or not anybody is home. It is also the one home security measure that improves your life on ordinary evenings, because you can find the keyhole and see the steps.
Motion activated floodlights, dusk to dawn fittings, wall packs for commercial buildings, and the awkward ones nobody else wants: the corner of the building with no power near it and no easy route to get any there.
The mistake we get called out to fix most is a floodlight aimed at the wrong thing, blinding the camera it was supposed to help. Aim matters as much as brightness.
